Our Saturday Run 1.09.10

3:30 PM - Reston Town Center - 32 Degrees and VERY windy!

After a quick trip to Potomac River Running Store for Jen's new shoes and Zoe's Nike+ sensor we were off to tackle the planned 5 miles. What we didn't plan was a route - we wanted something new.

So we started running around the perimeter of Reston Town Center, which was quite the uphill battle running into the wind almost the entire time. In search of a flatter course for our remaining 4 miles we searched desperately for a way to get on our beloved W&OD trail. After Zoe led us on some all-terrain running through snow, grass and dead shrubbery we were there - paved, straight and almost 90% snow and ice free! When we started we thought we'd be the only crazy ones out today - but we were wrong! The runners outweighed the bikers as we came across 5 brave souls on bikes and 9 on foot. A nice easy pace took us down to Herndon, coming back though was another story - there were some foot cramps, side stitches, a few almost falls on the ice and snow and Jen's very sore knee.

Despite the challenges today we were successful - a final total of 5.64 miles in 1:10:59!

*Today's total provided by Jen's Nike+ as we struggled a bit getting Zoe's sensor working*

Jen's Knee: nothing an ice pack and some rest won't fix (check out the snazzy new shoes, yes they look a bit orthopedic but I'm a severe overpronator so fashion isn't really an option for me)
