W&OD Trail - Reston to Herndon - low 50's
Excited about the nicest weather we've had in a while but not about our bum knees - we headed up to CVS in search of some support. Overwhelmed by the options in front of us we figured the best way to start was with the basics. With both our knees properly supported we headed over to the YMCA (Jen's gym) which so nicely backs to our favorite place to run, the W&OD trail.
With a nice easy pace we were off! It was great to be outside again and catch up on our weeks. We had already decided that Jen would do a mile with Zoe and then head into the gym and tearfully watch Zoe run off into the distance to finish her run. Okay maybe not tearfully but this bum knee is really throwing a kink into our chatting time!
The knee braces helped, feeling strong we made it out about 3/4 of a mile into Herndon before turning back (according to Jen's nike+) and at about 1.5 the pain flaired up again and it was time for her to stop. Keeping up a quick walk the rest of the way back to the gym, Zoe slowed her pace for a bit to what we call the "Bouncy Jog" so we could chat for a few more mintues before saying our goodbyes.
Jen: I headed into the gym way overdressed (mental note - if starting workout outside and moving indoors layer properly!) and spent an hour on the bike and the arc trainer.
Zoe: It was odd running by myself but I felt like I had to keep going. I had my nike+ on kilometers and I have to say it confused me. I stopped at 3.75 miles and if I would have known how close I was I would have gotten to 4 miles! Live and learn =)
